Renewable Energy

Our world runs on energy. Much of this energy has been stored in the earth as fossil fuel. We don't know exactly how much fossil fuel that we have left. We do know that the burning of oil has exceeded the discovery of new oil since about 1990. Although natural gas and coal are more abundant, each is a finite and non-renewable resource. Prudent people are concerned.

Fortunately, we have abundant resources in sunlight and heat from the earth's core.

Solar Hot Water PanelsThree common renewable sources of energy are Geothermal, Solar and Wind. Each has its own specific benefits and problems. EIG offers consulting, design, installation and maintenance services in all three areas.

Wind Turbine InstallationsBelow the frost line, the earth remains at a fairly constant temperature the year round. Thus, heat can be extracted from the earth in winter and put back into the earth in summer. This is done with a Geothermal Heat Pump which is about 3 times as efficient as ordinary electric heating.

Sunshine provides both warming and electricity. These are referred to as Thermal and Photovoltaic or PV. At present, Thermal Solar is cost effective only for those heasting with electricity or propane.

Small wind turbine installations are proliferating. Since the power delivered by a wind turbine is proportional to the cube of the wind speed, the height of the tower above trees is very important.
